Well time for a quick post. I am back to training and it’s been an interesting road to say the least. I am still not allowed to swim with my face (sorry Jeff) still healing up so it has given me some time to really focus on the bike and running. This is my first major that has sidelined me for so long so it has been an interesting experience. Usually if I got hurt running I would be able to swim or bike to keep up my fitness but this has pretty much incapacitated me until now. Being on a “soft food” diet while my face is healing has presented some interesting hurdles. For example I recently traveled back down to A&M for a tailgate and cooked burgers and hot dogs for the whole Cross Country team. Unfortunately I had to take my food processor and blend up my burger with a little ketchup which prompted some interesting stares. I am building up my mileage on the running and building my time on the bike in hopes of sneaking in one last race before the end of the season. Our goal right now is to try and shoot for the Dallas US Open age group race. If that doesn’t happen I’ll try for some Du’s before I start my winter base. On a positive note I recently ran in the TCU Theta CASA 5k to remind myself how it was to race. It was nice being out there just having fun and seeing how my body would react. I let another racer pace the first 2 miles or so then took over and ended up winning the overall which was a nice feeling coming back from this injury. My goal for this 5k was to have fun, test my fitness, and light a fire under me to keep me going full steam forward. It worked brilliantly to say the least and I had a fantastic ride after the 5k. Of course I was hurting the next day but it was nice to feel like I was making some progress. That’s it for now but I’ll post more comeback training stories.
