Well I've been sticking to my philosophy this season of not sacrificing training for racing, which means that I skipped the first two local races of the season in lieu of some tough long workouts that were on the calendar for the same days. For instance, last weekend was the Kansas City triathlon, and instead of racing, I headed out in the afternoon in the 85 degree heat and 25 mph winds for a 60 mile ride. A tough one, but one in the bank for IMKS prep. This has also allowed me to attend these two races to support my teammates. I can't express how proud I am to see the Tri4Him tent set up right next to the finish line and all of those T4H jerseys heading throught transition, out on the course and across the finish line.
God has SO blessed this Kansas City Tri4Him effort and there were 15 Tri4Him athletes competing at the Kansas City Triathlon last weekend!!!
SO now it's taper week and this morning was a REAL confirmation of where I am in my training at this point. I did a 15 mile bike and 5 mile run brick. I went hard on the bike and ran the pace that I expect to run for the first 10 miles of the run at IMKS. When I got finished, I felt great!! Really wasn't even tired. I had covered 20 miles and when I finished I jumped in and edged and mowed the lawn and then took the kids for a bike ride to the park! I really think this week of tapering is going to go a long way to having me in the best shape ever for this race. I feel like the fitness level is there, now it's just a matter of actively resting my body and having fun on race day!!
ONE WEEK LEFT TILL RACE DAY!!
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!
