Only one more weekend of long workouts left and then it's time to begin my taper for Ironman Kansas 70.3. Today called for a 56 bike and 10 run on the race course followed by a rest day on Sunday. It was about 58 degrees at the start of the ride and the rain started pretty much within mile 1 of the ride accompanied by some pretty stiff wind. My buddy and Tri4Him'er Kevin (and owner of EndurancePlanet.com) has a saying that these types of workouts are "money in the bank." I definately felt like I made a deposit today. This run course is set up with two loops and there is one pretty steep hill that you have to climb twice on the run. The first time I climbed it I felt great, but the second time it came at mile 9 and it was pretty tough!! I was really glad I was training on the race course because climbing that hill a second time really showed me how much that part of the course is gonna hurt on race day. I remember saying at the bottom of the hill as I looked up through the rain at the sky...OK, Lord, it's you and me....let's go!!!
I know he'll be right beside me on race day and I'm so excited to take on this race with God in my heart, on my jersey and right by my side!!!
21 days till IMKS!!!!!
