I really enjoyed the Sylvan race. We had a really good Tri4Him representation, and kept the podium streak alive. I personally am pretty happy with my race, the swim was good, bike was what I expected, and quite a bit slower in the run than I wanted. All in all it was really fun. It was my 1st beach start on the swim and I really liked it. It seemed that the running start really spaced things out better than a tread water start. Going into the waves made the swim out pretty tough, but if you could avoid waves on your breath it was not too bad after you got out 100 yards or so. I hardly ran into anyone, the turn back was pretty fun with the waves helping you out, I felt like I was trying to body surf or something. They only negative was the gas taste in the water. Not from the oil spill but all the jet skis and boats maybe I was the only one who noticed it but I really liked the swim. The bike was good, a few little hills that helped with some climbs and decent descents. It was not too windy, maybe more cross wind on the long stretch down Fairmont with a little head wind on way back in, but for 18 miles it was pretty smooth. The run was good, although I am not one to ask on this run, I never felt like I got into my pace, the shade on the way out was pretty nice, and thanks to the guy who was hosing down people from his driveway! I did keep wondering where the turn around would be, you could not see too far in front of you with the trees so it was a little mystery as to where you were going, but the mile markers were marked and they had plenty of water stations. Thanks for your prayer and support. The most important thing is that everyone was safe and had a good race glorifying God, and most importantly I heard we had the opportunity to share with some folks at the race. That is what it is all about. I do want to remember the 2 or 3 people I saw get sent to the hospital with heat exhaustion. I was praying for them as I saw them with IVs and being loaded in the ambulance!! John get better you were missed and we look forward to the YTri for those who are coming to hang out in my back yard!!
